Emily
Bookkeeping Specialist
Small Business Enthusiast
Welcome! I am Emily Kelzenberg, but most of my friends call me Emma. I am the owner and the face of Helping Friendly Bookkeeping. I run my business out of my home office in Minnesota.
I can still remember the day my dad quit his job to start his family-owned business. Small business has always been my bread and butter!
As a young professional, I realized a skill and love for data, organization, and bringing tasks to completion. This naturally led me to helping small businesses I know establish and maintain clean books, and eventually led to owning my own practice.
I am a Certified Quickbooks ProAdvisor and am certified through Bookkeeper Launch.
When I'm not organizing and perfecting financial statements, I spend my days with my family. My husband, Ryan, is my rock and a large factor in my ability to do what I do. My son, Caspian, and my two dogs, Nova and LuLu keep my world bright and full of adventure! These four make up my home and my heart. We are a tight-knit crew and love to explore the wild outdoors, travel, and generally, be very goofy. I can also be found practicing somatic healing modalities and enjoying the life of a full-spectrum ceremonialist and doula.
I offer custom bookkeeping plans.
Only what your business needs. Nothing more. Nothing Less.

Why work with a virtual bookkeeper?
Hiring a freelance bookkeeper, rather than employing in-house, saves you time, money, and energy. Being self-employed, my services come at a fraction of the rate of hiring a staff member full or part-time. You only pay for the time spent doing books, nothing more, nothing less. In exchange, I have the flexibility and freedom to serve multiple clients. I remain a neutral party to the workings of your business, so I can always give you objective and professional advice. I am a forever asset and consultant for your bookkeeping needs.
I do all my work from my home office in Minnesota, but I service clients nationwide. I guide my clients in setting up an efficient and manageable workflow, and provide the necessary platforms for secure sharing of documents. We work together to communicate the information needed for the initial cleanup period, and moving forward on a monthly basis. In the circumstance that I need physical documents that are not available virtually (as can be common in cleanup jobs), we simply find a solution. Be it a visit to your office (for local clients), scanning or mailing the documents, or a meeting up face-to-face, I do not shy away from in-person meetings as needed.
Staying virtual saves you time and money by integrating platforms that keep your bookkeeping workflow simple and user-friendly. It naturally facilitates better secure document storage and organization. My home office has been crafted specifically to allow for efficiency. Our virtual check-ins allow for flexibility on both ends. By cutting out time spent on transportation and navigating multiple workspaces, I stay more productive and efficient.
How does it work?
First, we will set up your Free Discovery Call. You reach out to me directly at emily@helpingfriendly.biz to schedule. I send you an invite for our Google Meets call, or use whatever platform you prefer that integrates well into your established systems. I also send you a list of documents to have ready for our call. We take as long as needed for you to tell me about your current systems, bookkeeping needs, pain points, and goals. Before ending our call, we decide if you'd like me to take a look at your books and come up with a custom bookeeping plan.
At our next call, I will present you with a Custom Bookkeeping Plan. This plan outlines what would be the best case bookkeeping scenario for your business. You will also find a custom quote outlining the cost for me to implement your best case bookkeeping plan. This quote will include both initial cleanup services and monthly maintenance services. Monthly maintenance services bill at a flat rate and include your quarterly and yearly bookkeeping needs (such as inventory adjustments, preparing 1099's, etc.). You review your proposal, sign our engagement letter, and pay your deposit. From there, I send you what information I need from you to begin as your virtual bookkeeper!
What services do I provide?
I can do the following, as needed: organize transactions, maintain bank feeds, track depreciation and amortization, reconcile accounts, inventory management, maintain AP/AR, prepare financial statements, run sales tax, monthly accounting, quarterly filings, year-end closing and obligations, and most everything in-between. I do bookkeeping-related data entry tasks, on a case-by-case basis. I do not prepare taxes, or service payroll.
